| "To me, Co. Aytch is the quintessential memoir of the
Civil War. I have enjoyed it so much over the years. The book is so
well written that Sam's spirit comes alive and you feel like you really
know the guy." -Garret Ogata, US History teacher, Hawaii
Garret's students have been reading Co. Aytch, and made
comments. One of the students was surprised by the writing. She felt
that it was written by someone today and not in 1882. Another student
said "Don't tell anyone, but I like the book." "Needless to say I'm
having a great day teaching," Garret added. His classroom now has a
copy of Sam Watkins' photo hanging on the wall along with a photo of
General Robert E. Lee.
The
book arrived safely and I am enjoying it very much.
Especially liked seeing the photo of Jennie...and Sam in
his later years. ..."Co. Aytch" has long been
in my top 3 books list. (The others being the Bible and
Mildred Haun's "The Hawk's Done Gone".) I have
introduced it to many friends. What an incredible,
naturally eloquent storyteller was your
great-grandpa!! Thanks again..to him...and to you for
compiling this new edition. -Rachel, Franklin, TN
Of course I had read the original
Co. Aytch many times before, but your version brings to
life the real
Sam Watkins! Thank you for your wonderful work on a
masterful book. -Dan, Attorney at Law, Texas
There's a group of men that eat out on
Wednesdays. We call ourselves ROMEO --
Retired Old Men
Eating Out.
One of them asked me a few months ago it I liked
Civil War
books. I told him that I liked the ones that have a
human interest to them.
He loaned me an old paperback of this book. I hardly could
put it down. I've ordered
4: one for me, one for each of my kids so they get a more
insightful view of the Civil
War, and the 4th for the person that loaned me his old
paperback. I'm looking forward
to reading and re-reading the new edition. Thanks. -
